Smelling Sweet
It's a fact of life; we all like to smell gorgeous. This is undoubtedly why fragrances are such a
booming business, and why there is a plethora of scents to choose from, including designer
fragrances from many of our favourite public divas. In fact, there are so many options in
fragrances today, that it has become quite the challenge to choose the perfect one out of so many
delightfully tantalizing aromas. How do you know which one will smell the sweetest? It just takes
a bit of fragrance savvy to learn how to select the best scents for you.
Eau de What?
The first step in choosing a fragrance is to know whether you would prefer a heavier, more
concentrated perfume, a light and airy eau de cologne, or something in between. Perfume generally
comes in a concentration of 15-30% perfume essence, which means you can use less and it will last
longer. Other concentrations, from heaviest to lightest, include eau de perfume, eau de toilette
and eau de cologne, respectively. Eau de cologne, also known as cologne, has a concentration of
5% or less, and will generally only last a couple of hours.
The Fragrance Wheel
Many of us have relied on the good old-fashioned colour wheel when decorating our homes, but
did you know that there is a fragrance wheel to help you smell your best? Fragrance expert
Michael Edwards came up with the wheel, which is now an internationally recognized means of
classifying the different types of scent. These aromas can be broken down into four notes;
oriental, floral, woody and fresh. Beyond these four notes, you can find a variety of fragrance
families, such as floral oriental or soft oriental. This wheel can help give you an idea of the
types of scents that are available so that you can find the ones that you like best.
By Design
We all love to sport the popular logos of designers on our clothes and handbags today, so why
not on our fragrance as well? Whether you are a Calvin Klein girl or lean more in the direction
of Chanel or Armani, there are enough designer fragrances to suit any taste or aroma preference.
Of course, many of these pretty little bottles with the big names come with a big price tag as
well. The good news is that there are ways to smell expensive without really shelling out the big
bucks to do so. Check out your options on the Internet for discounted designer fragrances, but
proceed into cyberspace with a degree of caution. There are counterfeit fragrances that are sold
on the World Wide Web every day. Protect yourself and your scent by only purchasing from
reputable retailers to ensure that you are getting the actual fragrance that you are paying for.
